Giving of ourselves isn’t always easy. In fact (let’s be honest about human nature) giving to others is just plain hard in a lot of situations, especially when there’s no immediate return on the investment for one’s self, or when it may actually cost you deeply. But this is precisely what Christ-followers are called to do! In II Corinthians chapter 9 the apostle Paul challenges the Corinthian church to give to support some struggling Christians in another part of the world whom they had never met, reminding them that “those who sow sparingly will reap sparingly, and those who sow bountifully will reap bountifully.”
As you and your family think about the most incredible Gift ever given this Christmas season, take some time to reflect on your giving to the Lord’s work in 2012, whether financial giving, time, talent, or energy; and remember He’s worthy of our bountiful and cheerful gift.
