A loving community of Christ-followers glorifying God together by making disciples of all nations

Behold, Elijah is Here: Answering the Call to Confrontation

Every day we meet with one form of confrontation or another, whether at work, school, or at home. Most of us would prefer to avoid confrontation if possible, but as followers of Christ, as worshipers of the One true and living God, we’re called to initiate confrontation on the spiritual level. The root sin in the core of humans is idolatry–and I don’t mean bowing down to statues carved out of stone! When all the labels are removed, the “god” we all bow down to bears a striking resemblance to our self, maybe not the person we see in the mirror, but the god-like, powerful, self-determined person we imagine ourselves being.

Like learning to drive nails, confronting self-worship in our own lives and in the lives of others with the Word of God is hard and unnatural at first, but rather than being deterred by this we must be all the more determined to seek the sole worship of our God among all peoples. Confrontation of idolatry is not optional for God’s people. It’s an unavoidable, inevitable reality for anyone zealous for the glory of God. Listen to part 3 in the Elijah series by clicking here.
