Churches, as well as individual Christians, endure seasons of humbling, seasons of weakness and of relative ineffectiveness as a result of human failures but also at the hand of God . It is through these humblings that God plants seeds of renewal and revival as the focus of our hearts and eyes is turned from trusting in ourselves to trusting in God once again.
Many churches are guilty of presenting themselves as “strong”, “healthy”, and “growing” and in so doing place themselves on a fast-track to humbling. The same is true of many Christian leaders. As a pastor and as a church, I and the Bridge Church family are not immune to such pride, and are currently in a place of humbling from the Lord.
Hannah’s prayer points to the need for God’s people to rethink our goals and ideals and most importantly our posture before a holy God. Instead of living from a posture of might, according to this text it’s the feeble who “bind on strength,” it’s the hungry who are “filled,” and it’s the barren who are blessed with offspring.
God is being gracious in giving Bridge Church the opportunity, through a season of humbling, to embrace feebleness, hunger and barrenness that in all of these Christ may demonstrate Himself as our all-in-all. Click the image above to listen to today’s message.
